Philippines will have Wi-Fi access in Public Places
A sure treat for every Filipino..
Come July, pinoys may enjoy 24/7 free Wi-Fi access in designated public places throughout the country.
According to The Department of Science and Technology – Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) these include the following places:
1. Public Plazas and Parks
2. Public Primary and Secondary Central Schools
3. Public Libraries
4. Rural Health Units and Government Hospitals
5. State Universities and Colleges
6. Train Stations of the MRT and LRT systems
7. Airports and Seaports
8. City and Municipal Halls
9. National Government Offices
Each public Wi-Fi area will have an average of 256 kbps, the lowest existing speed requirement for ”broadband” service, according to the DOST-ICTO.
The DOST-ICTO added that they will be focus initially on metropolitan areas in the first 6 months of the project and will finish it with a nationwide free Wi-Fi access after by June 2016.
However, DOST-ICTO Director II Nestor Bongato said there will be certain boundaries in connection to access in each Wi-Fi zone.
He said they are still in the process of clearing the policies with regards to the Wi-Fi access registration.
