Winner of Mayweather-Pacquiao fight gets an Emerald belt
A very exquisite belt will be given to what the World Boxing Council is calling the superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
Following a fan poll on the WBC website, the judging body made an announcement that it will award the winner of the May 2 welterweight bout at MGM Grand in Las Vegas an emerald belt which was estimated to be worth around $1 million.
The emerald belt won over an onyx belt as the winner’s prize in fan voting, 53% to 47%.
The belt follows the diamond belt that Mayweather earlier won for winning over Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2013.
WBC said in a statement the belt was designed “to appropriately recognize the winner of this titanic and epic event,” likely to slam records for pay-per-view and live-gate receipts.
The standing of the boxing superstars: Pacquiao has won world titles in eight divisions and Mayweather (47-0) has belts in five weight classes.
