The day has finally arrived for Blue Eagles and Tigers as both team will fight closer to the top.
The rivalry is just on the brink and likeley to get even more serious as the Ateneo Blue Eagles and the University of Sto. Tomas Growling Tigers slug it out once again in Game Two of the best-of-three Finals series in the 75th UAAP men’s basketball tournament todayhappening at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Blue Eagles will be goving out their best to capture their fifth straight title while the Tigers’ goal will be bringing series to a deciding Game Three set for Saturday.
In Game One, senior forward Nico Salva got the biggest in that match as he scored a career-high 30 points, remembering his moment showing in last year’s finals wherein he grabbed the Finals MVP award. However, it was “The Phenom” Kiefer Ravena that closed the win for the Eagles as his jumper only having eight seconds in the timer made their lead to five.
But the win did not come easy as UST head coach Pido Jarencio made accusations that game officials were favoring the Eagles, with head coach Norman Black.
“Do I need to talk in English in order to get a fair call? It’s up to them, I’m just saying the truth. We want consistency in the officiating. Let the players decide the outcome of the game,” said Jarencio in his comments soon after the game.]
On the other hand, Coach Norman Black was not pleased with then comment, so his response was: " he part about speaking English and that I’m American that’s why the referees are biased towards me, that’s uncalled for. It’s mean and totally unsportsmanlike.”
In every ball game, the passion for winning is so strong that it often takes over our behavior even our foresight. May this game today highlight the strength of the players and its officials.
