Tiger Woods starts 2010 British Open
Tiger Woods made a par as his opening hole on a quiet morning at the 139th British Open, in search to use his much loved course to end a season-opening winless streak that will match the longest of his career.
Donned in a bright fuschia shirt, without rain jacket on a day which was expected to rain – Woods was given a low key British welcome upon his introduction at the Old Course.
One was heard shouting "One time!" as the golfer ripped a long iron down the left side of the wide first fairway. This brought a wedge for Woods within 18 feet of the pin, and he made two swipes with his new putter to accomplish the par.
Woods is anticipating for his first victory for 2010, generating a wide mix of results following his April return from a controversial hiatus then went to counseling in the midst of a sex scandal. He has gained two fourth-place finishes in majors, but also got a missed cut and nothing higher than 19th.
Woods was paired for the first two rounds with Justin Rose, perhaps the Open’s hottest entrant with two PGA Tour wins in the past six weeks. Rose too, parred No. 1, as did third member Camilo Villegas.
John Daly, who gained victory in the 1995 Open at St. Andrews, took the early lead at 5-under through eight holes. One attempt back were German pro Marcel Siem (through 12) and Australia’s John Senden (through 11)
