Tennis: US Open on its 8th day
Roger Federer beats Jurgen Melzer in round four of the US Open, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. The five-time champion was in good form and in control of the match.
He will face Robin Soderling in the quarterfinals. Soderling won against Albert Montanes after their 4th set, 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-3.
The Swiss lost to Soderling at the Frech Open this year which ended his run of 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals.
Gael Monfils won over his good friend Richard Gasquet, 6-4 7-5 7-5 and will play with the third seed Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic beat Mardy Fish 6-3 6-4 6-1 in their match.
Meanwhile, Women’s Singles Round 2 will have C. Van Nguyen against L. Robson at the Grandstand.
Caroline Wozniacki took down Maria Sharapova after the second set 6-3 6-4.
Dominika Cibulkova beats the eleventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 7-6.
Vera Zvonareva won against Andrea Petkovic 6-1 6-2
Kaia Kanepi made it to the fourth round against Yanina Wickmayer after winning the 2nd and 3rd sets 0-6 7-6 6-1.
