Pacuiao vs Margarito for WBC title
Manny Pacquiao will be fighting the Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito after the negotiations against Floyd Mayweather Jr. failed. The bout will be for the vacant World Boxing Council light middleweight crown on November 13 to further boost his credentials as boxing’s only seven division champion.
Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, promoter for both fighters, chose Margarito over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto because the three time former world champion is seen to be more competitive opponent than Cotto.
So far, the venue for Pacquiao-Margarito match is still uncertain. Monterrey, Mexico and Las Vegas, Nevada are some sites being considered.
Even after serving the one-year suspension, Margarito is still banned from fighting in the United State after being found of using hardened hand wraps against Shane Mosley in 2009.
Influence of casino operator’s are expected to convince the Nevada State Athletic Commission to give the Mexican a temporary license to fight in Las Vegas. If NSAC refuses, an arena with a seating capacity of 22,000 is available in Monterrey.
Pacquiao standing at 5-foot-6 has no objections to fight Margarito who stands at 5-foot 11 with weight not exceeding 150 pounds.
Most of the training of Pacquiao will be spent in Manila, due to the demand of his new job as a congressman, with his trainer Freddie Roach who is coming over in the middle of September.
Telecast of the Pacquiao-Margarito match will be through pay-per-view.
