Australian Boxer dies after fight with Filipino
A Queensland boxer who passed out after a fight on the weekend has already passed away in hospital.
Braydon Smith, 23, was under induced coma since the Saturday bout against featherweight Filipino John Moralde at Rumours International Convention Centre.
Smith was defeated in a unanimous points decision. After commending his opponent and congratulating Moralde on his win, Smith went back to his dressing room.
In spite of being alert and responsive after the 10-round fight, after 90 minutes, Smith collapsed. Smith was placed in an induced coma.
It was expected that his condition would lessen its severity, the swelling on his brain, however his life support was turned off this afternoon.
Smith, labeled as "The Great White", was in his final year of law at the University of Southern Queensland.His father is a prominent Toowoomba boxing trainer and promoter Brendon Smith.
Meanwhile, hashtag "prayforbrayd" with messages of condolence spread on social media. Smith was described as a "true gentleman" of the boxing fraternity.
