Villar now tops in The Center survey
According to a survey conducted by the political monitoring organization Issue and Advocacy Center, Sen. Manny Villar Jr. of Nacionalista Party has left behind his colleague, Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III of Liberal Party.
The survey was conducted from March 3 to 10, and based on its report of 2,400 respondents, 28 percent preferred Villar over Aquino who got 26 percent.
However the director of the Issue and Advocacy Center, Ed Malay said, that the two could be considered as statistically tied because the survey has a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points. Malay noted that Villar’s advertisements really helped him in order to achieve this standing.
“Ang nagpapatakbo ng campaign ay media, not in a sense na ang media ay kasama sa kampanya kundi yung media ang ginagamit bilang plataporma para isulong yung kampanya ng mga kandidato," he said.
Meanwhile trailing behing Aquino were Joseph Estrada of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino with 18 percent; Gilberto Teodoro Jr. of Lakas-Kampi-CMD with 14 percent; Sen. Richard Gordon of Bagumbayan, nine percent; evangelist Eddie Villanueva of Bangon Pilipinas, two percent; and lastly, JC de los Reyes of Ang Kapatiran, 0.5 percent. Sen. Ana Consuelo “Jamby" Madriga and environmentalist Nicanor both got zero percent.
Villar was happy with the result, commenting that the survey serves as an inspiration for him to try go to various parts of the country while campaign period.
"Nagpapasalamat ako sa patuloy na suporta at tiwala ng ating mga kababayan sa ating kakayahang mamumo sa ating bansa (I thank the people for their continued trust and support in my ability to lead the nation)," he said.
On the other hand, Aquino’s group decided not to comment further, for them, they will just wait for the Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia surveys.
