holdup taxi, murdered

Early Sunday, May 30, a taxi driver of a popular transport firm was murdered in what appears to be a  robbery in Quezon City, police report said.

According to SPO2 Mario Turiano of the Quezon City Police District homicide section, the victim was identified as William Herrera, 47, a driver of the MGE Transport Coporation and a resident of No. 176 Sarmiento Extension, Barangay Sta. Monica, Novaliches, Quezon City .

Based on the investigation, Herrera was already lifeless when he was found at around 12:10 a.m.,  on the driver’s seat of his taxi (TXF-469) in front of a house at No. 506-C on Damayan St., Barangay Batasan Hills.

Police said the vehicle knocked the gutter of the road.

The policeman said the driver sustained a deadly gunshot wound in the neck, which was caused by a bullet from a .38-caliber gun.

Based on the residents’ stories, they heard two consecutive shots, and when they looked, they found two men exiting out from the vehicle and  were running.

When they looked at the taxi, they saw the the bloodied driver on his seat.

Investigators said the robbers might have pretended as passengers. “The victim could have resisted (the holdup) and was eventually shot,” the policeman said.

A witness who was named had come forward and identified a resident in the area as one of the men who robbed and killed the taxi driver, the police said.
