Steve Jobs Annoys rivals, is this bad for Apple?

Just when you thought Apple CEO Steve Jobs and antennagate aren’t out of the news, well you’re  wrong.

According to reports, instead of stating a quick apology and  offering a free case for the iPhone 4 reception issues, Jobs got many smartphone competitors riled up during the press conference of iPhone 4 last Friday.

Jobs initially stressed antenna issues on phones from RIM, Motorola and HTC. He claimed that they experienced the same dropped calls if placed on the side in poor signal areas.

CEOs from RIM, who makes Blackberry, and Motorola were surprised with Jobs for including their names with Apple’s issues, as if expecting  to take the heat off of Apple even a bit.

USA Today reports : "Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable," say Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie, co-CEOs of Research In Motion, which makes the BlackBerry. "RIM has avoided designs like the one Apple used in the iPhone 4 and instead has used innovative designs, which reduce the risk for reduced calls."

"It is disingenuous to suggest that all phones perform equally," Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha says in a statement. "In our own testing, we have found that ( Motorola’s) Droid X performs much better than iPhone 4 when held by consumers."

They tthought the press conference was held to soothe the troubles of Apple iPhone 4 owners. However it seems the PR team at Apple has thought it would be a brilliant idea to ensure those who haven’t bought  an iPhone 4 yet were informed about the shortcomings of the other pone companies.

Do you think Steve Jobs’ approach was able to achieve Apple’s goals?
