Sen. Richard Gordon dares Villar to undergo lie detector test

gordon

Sen. Richard Gordon on Tuesday, March 2, revealed that his fellow candidate Sen. Manny Villar attempted to bribe him to drop his candidacy for presidential position. In an interview, Gordon said a messenger went to him and offered him a Cabinet position and reimbursement of his campaign expenses in exchange for backing out of the presidential race.

The said bribe try happened last week of January at the height of the Senate Committee of the Whole’s report recommending the censure of Villar for unethical conduct in connection with the C-5 road project.  The intention here was to get rid of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile as Senate president and stop the Senate plenary deliberations on the ethics case. He somehow gave a clue who the messenger was.  Gordon said the emissary was a "former Cabinet official of yesteryears," and a "businessman, not a political operator."  He said the emissary was "just trying to be a friend to his friend" and was just "delivering a message" for Villar.

When Gordon was asked why reveal all these bribery issue now, Gordon said, he has no intention of disclosing it since he promised not tell, but somehow he just got fed up with the Senator’s ways like how he manipulate people using his money to get what he wants, including the highest position in the country.

"I’m telling my friend, you can’t buy everything," Gordon said. "You can buy some of the people, some of the time, but you can’t buy all the people, all of the time."

Above all these allegations against Senator Villar, he was then asked if he has proof, Gordon answered: "I have my integrity against his [ Senator Villar's] integrity."  Then also added that he has proof that the emissary indeed went to his house.

Previously, Joseph Estrada, a presidential aspirant as well, was first to admit that someone is also buying him out to withdraw from the race, but he refused to identify the person bribing him. Meanwhile, Senator Manny Villar, was not surprised nor  frazzled about the revelations of Gordon and Estrada.  He denied all the allegations.  To him it appears that there is a pattern surrounding the bribery issue.  He hopes that all the candidates are still running until May 10.

Gordon’s reaction to Villar’s answer was daring him to undergo a lie detector test.  Gordon is willing to submit himself to a lie detector test to find out who is lying between them.

Will this improve Gordon’s candidacy or the other way around (improve Villar’s)?  Based on previous elections, truth doesn’t matter to voters but popularity.  Eraption or Erapsyon criticism with jokes made Erap more popular before.  Now, every candidate is looking for issues (even getting criticized) which they could turn in favor of their candidacy.   2010 election even lessens the Pres. GMA or government critics.  Issues like "bribery", "corruption", "rich candidate", old forgotten cases like "Dacer murder case", "mahirap", "yayaman", "namatayan", and help to calamity victims like "ondoy victims", etc. are the favorite issues being used for 2010 political campaign.
