Michael Jordan, now an NBA owner

Tagged as NBA’s greatest player, and one of the country’s top pitchmen, now, soon to be called NBA owner is no other than Michael Jordan himself.

Reports said that Jordan made a deal late Friday night to buy controlling interest of the Charlotte Bobcats, putting the six-time NBA champion in charge of the money-losing team in his home state. Bob Johnson owner of the Bobcats, announced in a statement that he is okay with it.  Jordan have been a part owner of the team since 2006 and has been running the team’s basketball operations.

The details regarding the purchasing of the team was not available and both Jordan and Johnson made no comment about it.  Jordan was not the only one eyeing for the ownership of the team.  Former Houston Rockets executive George Postolos, who also had an ownership group together to buy the team, but to everyone’s surprise Postolos said Jordan had the exclusive right to buy the club until just before midnight Friday night.  For him, Jordan is very committed.

A lot is expected of Michael Jordan, because in this role that he will be taking over is to make Bobcats a winner and the franchise and Charlotte’s downtown arena profitable.  Critics have watchful eye on Jordan, saying that he’s attendance lagged, he rarely attended practices or games and did not work on the marketing side of the operation. It was Rod Higgins, General manager, runs the day-to-day basketball operations.  Jordan has had some missteps, and some say that once he acquire the ownership of Bobcats, no one can fire him unlike his experience in 2003 when Abe Pollin of Washington Wizards fired him when Jordan tried to run the basketball operations.

In Bobcats, Jordan’s close friend, Fred Whitfield, is team president, and Higgins was Jordan’s hire.
