Medical team in Haiti, gets assistance from Filipino community-DOH
Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral was pleased after learning that the 21-member Philippine medical team in Haiti is getting generous support from the Filipino community. She said that they will be deploying new team of Filipino volunteers that will relieve those who are giving medical aid to the victims of the Haiti quake, but they will be waiting for further instructions.
Information reached Cabral that there are no conflicts or negative reports concerning the Filipino team in Haiti. So far the medical equipments and medicines are sufficient, officials are treating them accordingly and Filipino community are helping them. Cabral said that United Nations has given them two tents where they can stay during the medical operation.
New team is being gathered for the replacement of present team. The team includes trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, a pediatrician, an internist, a psychologist, 5 nurses and three epidemiologists and sanitary engineers. According to Cabral, the length of stay of the 21-member team will depend on how long they are needed there. There is no guarantee for the volunteers that they will be deployed, the Health secretary said , they will still weigh the situation.
