Filipinos affected in Haiti earthquake
70 coming home
According to the report of Philippine Ambassador MacArthur Corsino to Havana, who is also the head of the Philippine Recovery-Relief-Repatriation Task Force in Haiti, they are now finalizing plans for the return of about 70 Filipinos caught in Haiti earthquake back to Philippines. 70 out of more than 210 Filipinos expressed their interest in going home.
He also said that repatriates will be going by bus from Port-au-Prince to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where they will travel by plane to Miami (Florida), then to LA, and thereafter a flight to Manila.
The unfortunate "kababayan"
Four Filipinos who perished in Haiti’s earthquake will be receiving hero’s welcome. Three of them are military peacekeepers and the other one is United Nations civilian worker.
The three soldiers, namely, Army Sgt. Eustacio Bermudez Jr., Navy Petty Officer Pearly Panangui and Air Force Sgt. Janice Arocena and one civilian Jerome Yap, UN mission executive assistant, were already flown from Haiti to the Dominican Republic and are expected to arrive in Manila on Monday afternoon, informed by Armed Forces spokesperson Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner Jr.
Still Missing
Two Filipinos feared trapped in the ruins of Caribbean Supermarket are Grace Fabian and Geraldine Lalican who were working at the supermarket when the quake struck, according to Col. Lope Dagoy, head of the UN peacekeeping contingent.
Col. Dagoy said that the commitment of an international humanitarian organization and Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Mission were received to help in the rescue efforts.
List of 100 Filipinos declared safe in Delmas:
The DFA released a list of Filipinos in Haiti that were declared safe in Delmas districts. The list was drawn from three areas — Delmas (31), Delmas (41) and Delmas (56).
