Dubai: Two died in UPS Boeing 747-plane crash
Dubai - Two crew members on board a 747 United Parcel Service cargo plane died in the crash this morning near the Dubai airport. The bodies of the two pilots were recovered according to UAE civil aviation authority. "The pilot reported fire and smoke in the cockpit and was instructed to return to Dubai. After falling to land at the airport, the plane disappeared from radar screens and was found later (at the crash site)," General manager of civil aviation Saif al-Suwaidi said.
“Safety is a key priority for UPS,” Bob Lekites, the airline’s international operations manager, said. “We will not speculate about the cause. Until then, we ask for your patience in this difficult time.”
The cargo plane crashed in an unpopulated area near the Dubai airport shortly after take off for Cologne, Germany at 640pm Friday their local time. The National Transportation Safety Board will assist in investigating the cause of the crash, board officials said.
