Another Toyota Recall?
After the global massive recall of more than 8 million vehicles due to sticky gas pedals and other defects, Toyota Motor Corp has yet to face another possible recall. Around 270,000 vehicles, 180,000 of which is sold worldwide and the rest in Japan, is found to have defective engines affecting cars including its luxury Lexus range and Crown sedans – a report said Thursday.
Toyota spokesman did not confirm if recall is considered, but the company is evaluating measures to deal with the said engine problem which can stall the vehicle while moving. Reports said that other models are also being examined to check if they are also affected by the problem.
Almost 200 complaints were already received in Japan that the engines made a strange noise. As of now, there are no reports of accidents involving faulty engines.
Congress is now considering the revision of the auto safety laws to add penalties against automakers and give power to the government to demand recalls and push car companies to strictly follow new safety standards.
