Villar, Biggest Spender in Campaign ads

manny villarFrom February 9 to March 2, presidential candidate Manny Villar, Jr. tops the survey of the biggest spender for television advertisement  based from a media research company.

Villar has already spent over P120 million on TV advertisements alone. Calculating his total costs from November 1 of last year, he already spent over P1.3 billion.

Former President Joseph Estrada ranked second with P88 million folowed by Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III (Liberal Party) with P87 million and Sen. Richard Gordon (Bagumbayan) with P67.3 million. Gilberto Teodoro Jr. (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) ranked fifth, spending only P60,480 million on TV commercials since the start of the campaign period.

According to AGB Nielsen, Teodoro will rank second to Villar if the sum of money spent on advertisements from November 1 last year would also be included. Teodoro has spent almost half a billion pesos on TV ads. The approaching election appears to be the most expensive election in Philippine history since P2 billion was already spent.

Villar is the wealthiest among the candidates. Villar and his group went to Surigao on the fourth week of the campaign. Surigao ranked fifth highest poverty rate of 53.5 percent. He noted that he has seen the  state of living of the poor there, which lacks of infrastructure, agriculture, education and tourism.  He promised that if ever elected president, he will do what is necessary to help the region.

Villar was able to emphatize with the people in Surigao, since he claims that he also came from poverty but was just able to stand up on his own by working hard to  reach his dreams. Not to mention, Villar is not from Surigao, he just visited the province, since it has a total of 1, 327,779 registered voters.

Thanks for writing about this. There’s a lot of important tech info on the internet. You’ve got a lot of that info here on your site. I’m impressed – I try to keep a couple blogs pretty on-going, but it’s a struggle sometimes. You’ve done a great job with this one. How do you do it?
