Vice President Noli to plead for the life of a Filipina in Kuwait
Vice President Noli de Castro Jr. was sent by the president to appeal for the life of Jakatia Pawa, a Filipino worker who was charged with murder for allegedly killing Dala Al-Naqi, the 22 – year-old daughter of her employer in Kuwait on May 14, 2007.
Pawa was convicted and sentenced to death by the Kuwaiti Criminal Court on April, 14, 2008. Then the Kuwaiti court of appeals affirmed the earlier decision on April 14, 2009. The Vice President’s intervention, goes to show that the Philippine government is doing its best to help Ms. Pawa.
Pawa’s lawyers stated that it couldn’t have been Pawa, but other people who are close to the victim. This speculation strengthened when the DNA test results did not match Pawa’s.
During the state visit of President Arroyo in August 2008, she informed the Prime Minister, that she would ask clemency for Pawa if the decision of her death sentence will be affirmed.
The president already approved last October the recommendation of DFA for the payment of unconcealed amount of blood money to start negotiations for the affidavit of forgiveness.
