Typhoid fever hits a village in Cebu
In Sitio Cabal-asan in Barangay Arpili, Balamban, Cebu, twenty cases of typhoid fever have been recorded as of Sunday.
Department of Health (DOH) officials and Integrated Provincial Health Office went to the mountain village and offered water disinfectant to residents.
The DOH Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit met with villagers to inform them of their situation.
Health official Renan Cimafranca said that they conducted a test of the water source in the area obtaining a positive result for the typhoid fever bacteria.
A blood test was also conducted on 6 residents who appear to have typhoid fever symptoms. Five of them tested positive.Cimafranca said that based on their investigation, only 9 of the 200 residents of the village have toilets.
