The new chief of the PNP SAF
A month after Mamasapano mission, President Aquino has chosen a new chief of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force.
Chief Superintendent Moro Virgilio Lazo is replacing Chief Superintendent Noli Talino who was the SAF OIC after Director Leo Napenas was removed after the operation that left 44 SAF troopers dead.
During his speech in his installation at Camp Bagong Diwa, Lazo said he is thankful to return with the Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action Force (SAF).
"I thank you for your trust and confidence in selecting me to lead the Philippine National Police – Special Action Force," Lazo told President Benigno Aquino III.
"I am grateful honored and humbled to head the PNP – SAF, a unit that has always been close to my heart. To my brothers and sisters in the SAF family, I am so elated to be back home, excited to work again with you. Together, united and as one, let us continue to affirm our commitment to be vanguards of peace. May the force be with us all."
Lazo was the chief of the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office earlier before his appointment as SAF commander.
He is from the Philippine Military Academy Maharlika Class 1984. He was a former SAF member himself from 1984 to 1989 and 2010 to 2013.
During Ramoss administration, Lazo was also a part of the now defunct Philippine Constabulary and a member of the Presidential Security Group. He was a provincial police director of Benguet and Cagayan and regional director for Central Luzon.
