Shabu component discovered in the rice shipment of NFA

 NFA rice

Vessel from Vietnam was prevented to leave Bredco’s Port in Bacolod for investigation for having found suspicious crystalline substance. The PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) regional director  of Western Visayas, Paul Ledesma, said that an NFA sack fell filled with crystalline substance when the NFA employees were unloading the sacks of rice from the Vietnamese vessel Trai Thien.  They immediately submitted samples to be tested, and it was later confirmed that the substance was identified as N-methylephredine.

According to PDEA, the substance includes a chemical compound Ephedrine, a main ingredient to produce shabu. NFA discovered that there were 50 sacks containing the same substance and confirmed that there were 71,000 "legitimate" NFA rice.
