A resolution was given by the senate praising the young  Olympic skater Michael Martinez for giving pride to the Philippines with hisaccomplishments last Winter Olympics.

Sen. Vicente Sotto III last week filed the senate Resolution No. 505, lauded Martinez, the first skater from Southeast Asia to join  the Winter Olympics in Russia.

Martinez is the only  Philippine representative who carried  the country’s flag  during the opening ceremony of the Sochi games.

His experience from the beginning is truly remarkable. Considering  his family’s restricted financial situation and having asthma, Martinez maintained his focus in achieving his dream by advancing  his skills in figure skating in different  shopping mall skating rinks in the country," the Senate resolution said.

It added, "Martinez’ achievement has brought pride, recognition and honor to the country and to the Filipino people" .

On the other hand, the Senate also adopted resolutions praising  Ariella Arida and Bea Rose Santiago for their respective success in their  beauty pageants last year.
