Senate honors Michael Martinez
A resolution was given by the senate praising the young Olympic skater Michael Martinez for giving pride to the Philippines with hisaccomplishments last Winter Olympics.
Sen. Vicente Sotto III last week filed the senate Resolution No. 505, lauded Martinez, the first skater from Southeast Asia to join the Winter Olympics in Russia.
Martinez is the only Philippine representative who carried the country’s flag during the opening ceremony of the Sochi games.
Ranked 19th overall with a total score of 184.25.
His experience from the beginning is truly remarkable. Considering his family’s restricted financial situation and having asthma, Martinez maintained his focus in achieving his dream by advancing his skills in figure skating in different shopping mall skating rinks in the country," the Senate resolution said.
It added, "Martinez’ achievement has brought pride, recognition and honor to the country and to the Filipino people" .
On the other hand, the Senate also adopted resolutions praising Ariella Arida and Bea Rose Santiago for their respective success in their beauty pageants last year.
