Number coding suspended starting Tuesday-MMDA

number codingOn Monday, March 29,2010, the Metro Manila Development Authority on Monday said it will postpone the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP) or number coding scheme starting Tuesday in preparation for Holy Week.

Oscar Inocentes, MMDA Chairman said that the suspension of the number coding scheme is implemented to give way to the mass departure of vehicles, both public utility and private, heading to provinces as the country commemorate the Lenten season.

“The suspension of the UVVRP is our way of ensuring the convenience of the public.  This way, they can travel without any delay, and there will be enough public utility vehicles to ferry passengers all day long,” he said in a statement.

More than 1,000 traffic enforcers will be deployed to man the road, particularly the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) and the other exit points of Metro Manila.

Majority of the traffic enforcers will be assigned to roads  leading to provincial bus terminals to guarantee the safety of commuters, and even the pedestrians.

The agency’s Roadside Emergency Group will  be available to give roadside emergency service and assistance to the public.
