Manny Pacquiao beats Algieri
Boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao presented a magnificent display of dominance as he destroyed American challenger Chris Algieri, putting to record six knockdowns which lead to unanimous decision win Sunday morning at the Cotai Arena in Macau.
Faced with a taller fighter with strong boxing skills, Pacquiao proved that he still has what winning streak in him, giving out powerful punches and remarkable speed that once made him the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
In the beginning, Pacquiao was never seriously challenged by Algieri, brushing off the American’s sporadic punches and instead let go of combinations that made Algieri’s left eye swollen and staggeing his feet.
It was obvious that Pacquiao wanted to end a knockout drought that started from 2009, but Algieri was able to hold it out until the final bell. But Filipino pride still won having judges scoring the bout 119-103, 119-103, and 120-102.
"Tonight, I did my best," a beaming Pacquiao said after the fight. "I am satisfied with my performance tonight. I came to fight, I did my best, and that was enough."
