Isabela Province declared under state of calamity due to El Niño

 

On Thursday, Isabela was placed under a state of calamity. Losses on the province’s agriculture produce were greatly affected by the El Niño phenomena.

The losses reached P1 billion due to the dryness that has plagued the area for a month now. Isabela Vice Governor Ramon Reyes made the decision to make the declaration to enable local government units of the province extend financial assistance.

According to the state weather bureau, El Niño will cause long dry spell throughout the country for the duration of the first half of the year.  Meanwhile Malacañang assured officials of Isabela that the National Government will direct all forms of assistance to the province. Government will revive the El Niño Task Force under Department of Agriculture. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo revived last month the El Niño Task Force due to abnormal dry season that our country is experiencing.

Government expects a  billion-peso agricultural losses for this year.
