HIV alert! Big on yuppies and call center agents!

Astounding number of cases infected  of HIV  was reported by the Philippine General Hospital on Wednesday. It is very alarming that the reports said the majority of those who are infected are young professionals particularly call center agents.

HIV cases rose to 709 last year.  In  2008, it was 528.  This was from the records of Department of Health and doctors especially in PGH are really worried.  In November, 80 cases were filed.  Doctor Edsel Savana is warning the public to be vigilant because aids can spread really fast.  According to him, most of those who catch HIV are gays, drug addicts and sex workers.  But to their surprise, record shows that the current cases are among young urban professionals "yuppies" mostly from ages 15-29, who are well educated.

Some of the infected said they are engaging in casual or group sex with people they meet on social networking sites on the internet. Invitation to have casual sex through internet is very rampant, and if that current trend will not be controlled or stopped as soon as possible, we are seeing 20,000 cases by 2020.

PGH’s action is to conduct a massive information drive to give counsel about the dangers of engaging with unsafe sex.

HIV is a disease that is still incurable today. We should always practice safe sex and also educate our people how to avoid the spread of this disease.
