AMLC official reacts to PSBank president’s testimony

impeachment

The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) on Tuesday doubted  the testimony of PSBank president Pascual Garcia III that AMLC inspected the bank records of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

“The AMLC has not conducted any audit, targeted or otherwise, of Chief Justice Corona’s deposit accounts with PSBank. The AMLC has no audit functions under the amended Anti-Money Laundering Act,” said AMLC executive director Vicente Aquino.

He added  that there was no court order allowing  the AMLC to review Corona’s bank records.

“If and when the AMLC applies with a competent court for an inquiry order, the court must first give prior notice to the account owner about a planned inquiry or examination pursuant to the ruling of the Supreme Court,” he said.

“Neither have they requested, have shown, copied, nor received any identity documents and specimen signature cards of Chief Justice Corona from PSBank or any of its branches,” Aquino added.

The AMLC executive director said the testimony of Garcia before the impeachment court “was inaccurate, misleading, and unfair.”

Aquino added that AMLC investigators never went to  PSBank Katipunan branch, and AMLC could not have leaked Corona’s bank records, Aquino added.
