6 Filipinos died in Malaysia

A Malaysian newspaper reported that six Filipino workers died after inhaling carbon monoxide while they were cleaning a water tank in Malaysia.

Department of Foreign Affairs is still confirming the details of the incident. In the newspaper, the incident happened at the Kampung Lawa Gadong water treatment plant in the southwest Beaufort district.

The victims were identified as Wahad, 30; Mus, 25; Ajin, 20; Armujil, 18; Anuar, 17 and Baisal, 16. According to police, the two workers entered the filtering tank at about 2 p.m., and switched on the pump to remove the water inside the tank.

By 6 p.m. there were no signs of the two workers coming out so the four other workers went in to help, after discovering the two unconscious workers, they attempted to get inside the tank to help, but each of them passed out and died.

Family members of the victims alerted the police and Fire and Rescue Services Department at about 7:40 p.m. when the six workers did not return home. Firemen rescued the workers through the tank’s small opening. The rescue was accomplished at about midnight.
