Three Filipinos were among the 42 crew members of a South Korean fishing vessel which sank in the waters off Antartica early Monday, killing 5 crew members and 17 others missing. The 614-ton ship went down at about 4:30 am Korean time, 1930 GMT Sunday.
Twenty others were rescued by another South Korean vessel nearby. Crew members comprised eight South Koreans, eight Chinese, 11 Indonesians, three Filipinos and one Russian, officials at the foreign ministry and the coast guard said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korean has asked New Zealand for help in rescue operations.
It is still unclear if the three Filipinos were among those rescued or not.
