Pedophile sentenced 20 years imprisonment for abusing 2 minor pinays
A British-born American Donald Mathias,64, was sentenced by Florida court last week to 20 years in prison for having committed sexual abuse of two young Filipinas. Mathias was reported to have the two girls aged 11 and 12 repeatedly abused while he visited the Philipines in 2007 and 2008.
Apart from the sentence, he was also ordered to pay $200,000 to his victims. He was also asked to serve an additional of five years probation after finishing his term in jail. On the other hand, the mother of the 2 girls is facing prosecution for allowing her children to undergo such abusive acts, and even participated in filmimg Mathias while he abuse the two girls.
UNICEF praises the decision and the cooperation between Philippines and the other governments all over the world to be vigilant about this kind of crime. DOJ made it possible to gather evidences against Mathias. The DOJ is now taking a legal action against the mother of the two innocent girls. She is facing the violation of Republic Act No.9208 or the Anti-trafficking in Person Act of 2009. If found guilty, She is facing a penalty of life imprisonment and a fine of not less than P2 million.
A mother who would let her children to be in danger is unacceptable. Is it still poverty that pushes them or lack of love?
